Visualisation

Within IST/e visualization aims to develop methods, techniques and tools that enable people to obtain insight in complex image data via interactive computer graphics.

The Visualization group headed by professor Jack van Wijk and assistant professor Andrei Jalba addresses the question of how to present data (not limited to imaging) so as to optimally exploit the unique capabilities of the human visual system to detect patterns and trends in imagery. In the context of IST/e its main areas of expertise are 3D interaction, virtual reality, and scientific visualization.

Anna Vilanova leads a visualization team within the Biomedical Image Analysis group headed by prof. Bart ter Haar Romeny and part time professor Marcel Breeuwer. Her visualization research concentrates on the development of methods that facilitate the visual exploration of complex (multivalued) medical imaging data, such as diffusion weighted imaging and 4D blood flow.
